For those who don’t know Five is the non-cable UK channel that shows Grey’s Anatomy. Their CEO is a Gay right activist. She has a civil partnership and a daughter with her partner. I’ve known her for a few years and have let her know about ‘Brookegate’ Five have not as yet brought the rights to season 4 of Grey’s Anatomy. If she gets her way - they never will. Now that - really will hit ABC where it hurts. She is also going to try and get a statement off of ABC/Shonda but if she does as well as the others ...

Gaydar radio ran a thing early hours of this morning about actors/actress that are discriminated because either they or the character that they play is an out homosexual

UPDATE:

Reply from FIVE
Unfortunately, we only broadcast this programme and do not have any influence on casting decisions made by the producers. Nevertheless, we have noted the details and request for people to sign the petition you have listed. This is circulated throughout the company and will be seen by all relevant personnel. If there is anything further we can help you with, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Also ABC left a statement with Pinkpaper - 'At present Sara Ramirez is still a member of our cast and there are no immediate plans for that to change.'

ABC is so effin predictable, n e gay couple who have an established relationship n aint messin round they just kill the storyline. The problem wasnt that erica was gay its that she was gay and only into Callie and Callie WANTED to be with erica, as soon as Callie agreed to no more sex with sloan in their eyes that killed the excitement of that relationship. Its so friggin degrading, because it makes it appear as n e one who's in the LGBT cmmunity and isnt sleeping around is just not worth watching. I love Sara Ramirez and Brooke Smith so I honestly dont see myself watching anymore if the rumors of Sara quitting is true; its just that simple! Thanks ABC for being a typical whore-centric network!

Just bringing over a comment by system_d_rail:

I am watching E! right now and they mentioned the "de-gaying" of Greys. Brief recap...pretty much more of the same, but hey at least its getting out there.

Ryan: And now let's talk about Grey's Anatomy. There has been some breaking news. Kristen Desantos? is here with the scoop. Are they taking the gay out of Grey?

Yes, this is whats happening. All the fans are talking about this today, inside sources have confirmed to us that Brooke Smith who was having a lesbian affair with Sara Ramirez on the show has been axed from the show. In addition, Melissa George who's coming on the show this month was supposed to be playing a bisexual character and that has totally been rewritten and shes not going to have a same-sex storyline. So it seems like they are taking all the gay storylines out of Grey's Anatomy which has been pretty prominate this season. Executive producer Shonda R says it has nothing to do with the fact that she was playing a lesbian, she just didnt have chemistry.

Ryan: Thats right, we just had the same conversation in our newsroom with you know who.

Whatever that means?
burning bright: pic#81003351gt22 on November 5th, 2008 07:54 pm (UTC)
It’s badly worded that - IMO sounds like Brooke and Sara having being have the lesbian relationship not Erica and Callie.

I wanna know who was in the Newsroom and what was said. I haven’t seen it and the way they say it might be different but from that ^^ it sounds like they don’t believe Shonda either …

Thanks for posting …

I live in Belgium and we just reached the lesbian storyline on tv. Saw the elevator kiss last week. So in a couple of weeks the storyline will be played out here too. So I mailed to a Belgian magazine about the firing of Brooke Smith. I remember they covered the I. Washington too. Everyone should know how Brooke Smith got treated. Even if Grey's isn't so popular here as in the States, people here too should know what happened to Brooke. The more the news gets spread, the better. I'll let you know if they published something on it.

this is a page to GLAAD's own article about Brooke's firing. There is a comment section below the article. if we post there it will be seen on their own website. Then our reaction will be seen by everybody.

Ok Shonda/ABC’s response

Diva magazine - ’No comment’

Pink paper - ’We do not make comments to UK media about episodes that have not aired in US yet.'

Gaydar radio ran a thing early hours of this morning about actors/actress that are discriminated because either they or the character that they play is an out homosexual

Now that - really will hit ABC where it hurts …

She is also going to try and get a statment off of ABC/Shonda but if she does as well as the others ...

I know it's all UK stuff so maybe won't affect anything but everylittle helps right?!

Some of it's missing cause it's personal to me.

Also ABC left a statement with Pinkpaper - 'At present Sara Ramirez is still a member of out cast and there are no immediate plans for that to change.'

Not much but my eye did catch the immediate part

Kris: Modkrizzzie on November 7th, 2008 05:45 pm (UTC)
Thanks for the infos, added it to the entry.

And I agree, the word immediate was chosen for a reason.
Nelfynelfy on November 7th, 2008 09:35 pm (UTC)
Ö3, one of Austria's stateowned radio stations, part of the Austria broadcasting company, wrote an article about the situation:

http://oe3.orf.at/aktuell/stories/320041/

what is astonishing is that Austria is NOT a gay-friendly country, especially compared to other EU-countries. We don't have famous lesbians here and gay people are way more invisible than in the states. I left a comment with the link to our community and the link to the petition, maybe someone will read my comment and visit our site!

Thank you so much for this complete list. Have signed the petition and have been posting the link all over the net to try and get more people to sign. Also fired off some emails to abc. It's kinda therapeutic being able to do all of this cos the worst thing is having to sit here feeling helpless about the whole thing.

It *was* kinda naive to think that Channel 5 would deny to buy the rights for Grey's season four. ;-)

It's business after all, if you like it or not! The personal lives of any bosses there have no real influence on the decisions made whether to buy a series or not, and GA *is* successful after all.

But I think it's cool that the campaign is being supported by them. *thumbs up* That's the only thing they can do, really.
